Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the capital, both authorised and issued, of National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd.

Mr. Les Huckfield

It is the intention to incorporate National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd. under the Companies Acts as a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital.

Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will publish as soon as possible in the Official Report the memorandum and articles of association of National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd.

No. Once National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd. is incorporated its memorandum and articles of association will be available for public inspection in the ordinary way at the Companies Registration Office. For the convenience of the House, my right hon. Friend will arrange for a copy to be placed in the Library.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry under which powers he proposes to establish and finance National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list the companies to be held in trust by National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd. and the cost of the acquisition of these companies by his department.

It is intended that National Shipbuilders and Repairers Ltd. will hold on trust for the Crown all the publicly owned stock and shares in Appledore Shipbuilders Ltd., Cammell Laird Shipbuilders Ltd., Govan Shipbuilders Ltd., North East Coast Ship-repairers Ltd., and Sunderland Shipbuilding and Engineering Ltd. These shares were acquired between 1970 and 1975 at a total cost of £34.5 million.
