HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 cc101-2W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the total amount of sterling currency remitted in 1976 to (a) India (b) Pakistan and (c) Bangladesh.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Remittances from the United Kingdom to these countries are not separatey identified in the balance of payments statistics, and I regret the information is not available on which an estimate could be based.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to strengthen exchange control regulations in respect of sterling currency remitted to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

I see no need to depart from the normal exchange control rules for remittances to these countries.
