HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 cc77-8W
40. Mr. Fitch

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of workers employed in the footwear industry who are on temporary employment subsidy at the latest available date; and if he will in future publish these figures each month.

Mr. Golding

Since the inception of the scheme on 18th August 1975 until 4th February 1977, 6,983 jobs had been preserved, in the footwear industry, with the assistance of the temporary employment subsidy. Although most of these jobs were till being preserved at that date, I regret that it is not possible to say how many without making a detailed examination of all completed and current applications. For this reason I am sorry that such figures could be published each month only at a disproportionate cost.
