HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 cc48-9W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what are his estimates of the cost of preparing and distributing documentation giving information on the electricity discount scheme, and of the total cost to Government funds of the scheme.

Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will publish a table giving the breakdown of the total estimated costs, including administration and postage, of his scheme for rebated fuel bills; how many extra officials will be required to run the scheme; and how many people are likely to benefit from it.

Dr. John A. Cunningham

The information requested is:

£ million
Provision for discount payments in the United Kingdom 25
Provision for administration, including printing, publicity and postage 2.5
Total 27.5

The cost of information documents including cost of postage is currently estimated at £35,000. The effect on staffing will be negligible. An estimated 2,700,000 recipients of supplementary benefit or family income supplement and their households may benefit from the scheme.
