Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement regarding the 5th January 1976 Agreement between Chrysler UK Limited and the Government on the total number employed at the Ryton, Stoke, Luton and Linwood plants of Chrysler UK Limited at the time of the 5th January 1976 Agreement; and what were the totals employed as at 5th June 1976 and 5th January 1977.

Mr. Alan Williams

The hon. Gentleman should write to the company for this information.

Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how much has been Raid to Chrysler UK Limited in total by his Department up to 9th February 1977, following the 5th January 1976 agreement between the Government and Chrysler UK Limited.

Mr. Alan Williams

Payments totalling £40 million have been made in accordance with clause 2(6) of the agreement with Chrysler dated 5th January 1976. Additionally, certain advances in respect of the guaranteed loan have been made in accordance with clause 5 of the agreement. For confidentiality reasons I am not prepared to disclose the amount of these advances.

Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement pursuant to the 5th January 1976 agreement between Chrysler UK Ltd. and the Government on the losses incurred in 1976 as a result of moving the Avenger model from the Ryton plant to Linwood plant.

Mr. Alan Williams

No. This would call for a comparison between the cost of events which took place and those which might have occurred had the transfer not been made which is not practicable.
