HC Deb 11 February 1977 vol 925 c849W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will investigate the allegations of systematic beating up of prisoners transferred from Her Majesty's prison at Hull to the C wing of Her Majesty's prison, Strangeways, in the light of the various other allegations of ill-treatment and violence by prison officers forwarded to him in respect of that prison.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

Three prisoners have made complaints of the kind mentioned by my hon. Friend. After considering reports of preliminary investigations by the Governor of Manchester Prison it has been decided to refer the complaints to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester.
