asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the cost of HMS "Wakeful" when she was acquired by the Royal Navy; what was the length and cost of her recent refit at Chatham; for what purposes she has been used since being acquired; what will be her future rôle; and what is the size of her crew, her armament and speed.

HMS "Wakeful" was acquired in April 1974 at a cost of £685,000. Her refit, which took just under a year, was completed in November 1976 at a total cost of £1.9 million. She has been used and will continue to be used on general escort duties in the Clyde. Her speed is 15 knots and she carries no fixed armament. Her complement is four officers, seven senior ratings and 14 junior ratings.
