asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what the total revenue collected from gaming clubs in 1975 and 1976; and what was the cost of collection to the Exchequer;

(2) what was the total revenue collected from football pools in 1975 and 1976; and what was the cost of collection;

(3) what was the total revenue collected from the betting tax in 1975 and 1976; and what was the cost of collection to the Exchequer.

The administration of the duties on betting and gaming is carried out by Customs and Excise staff as part of their general work in the control and collection of the revenue duties. The estimated annal cost of administering all the revenue duties—estimated to yield £6,020 million in 1976–77—is £26½ million.
