HC Deb 09 February 1977 vol 925 cc699-700W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, following his answer to the hon. Member for Christchurch and Lymington naming the manufacturers of whooping-cough vaccine available under the NHS as Duncan Flockhart and Co. Ltd. (Evans Biologicals Ltd. and Glaxo Laboratories (NZ) Ltd.), the Lister Institute, and Wellcome Research Laboratories, if any of these companies, their parent companies, or their subsidiary companies, has (a) any subsidiaries, (b) any financial relationship other than a trading relationship, or (c) are themselves subsidiaries of companies registered in the United States of America.

Mr. Ennals

I understand that, of the companies listed, Glaxo Laboratories (NZ) Ltd is not a United Kingdom registered company. Nor is Wellcome Research Laboratories a registered United Kingdom company, but the Wellcome Foundation Ltd. has four subsidiaries in the United States of America. Its annual report on accounts for 30th August 1975 does not give details of its financial relationship with its subsidiaries. So far as we know, none of the remaining companies is a subsidiary of companies registered in the United States.
