§ Mr. ArmstrongGrants to registered housing associations are made under provisions in the Housing Act 1974 which came into effect on 1st April 1975. Since that date 232 out of a total of 2,246 registered associations in England and Wales have received management grant and/or revenue deficit grant; payments totalled £2.2 million in 1975–76 and £6.8 million so far in 1976–77. Grants for modernisation account for about 40 per 677W cent of the payments of housing association grant made for all approved housing projects; these amounted to £132.7 million in 1975–76 and £280.6 million in the first three quarters of 1976–77.
