HC Deb 09 February 1977 vol 925 c687W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what is the reason for the 125 per cent. increase since December in the price of sultanas in the Province.

Mr. Maclennan

Details of retail prices of sultanas in Northern Ireland are not available, but for the United Kingdom as a whole average retail prices rose between October and December 1976 by about 80 per cent. and have since eased slightly. Factors which account for this increase were smaller crops in producing countries through adverse weather conditions, removal of export subsidies by some producing countries and the depreciation of sterling.
