asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will detail the representations he has received on the question of the 50 and 60 mph speed limits.

Views have been received from 39 bodies consulted. Seven have urged a return to 70 mph on all roads nine have expressed a preference for 60 mph on single-carriageway roads and 70 mph on dual-carriageway roads; 10 have recommended keeping the present limits; and 13 have suggested various other courses. In addition, 102 members of the public have offered views, either directly or through hon. Members, and 47 of these have urged a return to 70 mph on all roads.
