HC Deb 09 February 1977 vol 925 c711W
45. Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about the road construction programme on the south bank of the River Humber.

Mr. Horam

Good progress is being made on the construction of the new major road network in South Humberside. The whole of the M180 South Humberside motorway from the A18 at Thorne to east of Brigg is now under construction and it is expected to be completed throughout by early 1979, in time for the opening of the Humber Bridge. The extension of this route to Grimsby is in preparation subsequent to an announcement last summer of the preferred route, and, subject to the availability of the necessary funds, it is planned for completion by about the end of 1981. With regard to the associated county road improvements, the link between the M180 and the Humber Bridge is at an advanced stage of construction, whereas preparatory works are continuing on the remaining projects.
