§ Mr. Jim Spicerasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what practical use is made of the National Food Survey statistics; and whether it is intended that a similar survey should be carried out in 1977.
§ Mr. StrangThe National Food Survey produces information, not otherwise available, about food consumption and expenditure by different sectors, caused by the current value of the population. It thus provides a factual basis for policy on food supplies, prices and nutrition, and is essential to my Department in the discharge of its responsibilities. The information is also used by other Departments in the formulation and monitoring of social, economic and nutritional policies. The survey is being carried out in 1977.
