§ Mrs. Chalkerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will seek to amend Section 82(5)(a) of the Social Security Act 1975 and Regulation 2(1)(b) of the Social Security Benefit (Persons Abroad) Regulations 1975 for persons engaged on business for Great Britain who can supply medical evidence of their illness abroad and details of their business visit.
§ Mr. OrmeNo. I consider that the regulations already go as far as is reasonable in providing for exceptions from the rule that sickness benefit should not be payable for illness abroad, except where this is possible under reciprocal arrangements which enable adequate control of the claim to be exercised in the country concerned.
