HC Deb 04 February 1977 vol 925 c483W
Mr. Noble

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list totals of interest payments and capital repayments each year until 1985 against loans taken out by, respectively, central Government, local authorities, nationalised industries and other large United Kingdom borrowers, expressing all the figures on a dollar basis.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Since interest rates on much of this debt are on a floating basis, no estimates of the total interest payment over the future period are available. Repayments of short and mediumterm foreign currency debt by Her Majesty's Government in this period, including repayments of the amounts not yet drawn on the new IMF standby and on the new $1.5 billion loan, will total $10 billion. The repayments by the rest of the public sector in the period will total $10 billion also.
