HC Deb 04 February 1977 vol 925 cc443-4W
Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a further statement on the detention of the two Indian monks, Mr. R. Roy and Mr. N. Prasad.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

These men, who are citizens of India, are detained following my decision that they should not be given leave to enter the United Kingdom. In view of the refusal by the Government of Nepal to readmit them to that country, where they had been living, I have asked the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to assist them as a matter of urgency in applying for permission to live in a country acceptable to them. Those applications are, I understand, being actively pursued.
