Mr. MacGregor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give the breakdown of the £20 billion of medium-term external debts which the Governor of the Bank of England indicated in his speech on 31st January 1977 to the Overseas Bankers Club would have to be repaid between the present and 1985.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

The breakdown is as follows:

Repayments to IMF $6 billion
Repayment to HMG loans $4 billion
Repayment of the public sector borrowing $10 billion
