HC Deb 03 February 1977 vol 925 c321W
Mr. Stan Crowther

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the amount of the transport supplementary grant allocated to South Yorkshire County Council; and for what purpose the money withheld as a result of that authority's non-compliance with his policy on fares has now been allocated.

Mr. William Rodgers

Had the county council agreed to my request for reductions in its overall transport expenditure proposals for 1977–78 it would have received transport supplementary grant (TSG) of about £4 million, at November 1975 prices, instead of £291,000. As a result, the amount at aggregate Exchequer grant distributed through TSG was correspondingly reduced.
