HC Deb 03 February 1977 vol 925 c324W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what work is being done in his Department on the question of safety on the motorways.

Mr. William Rodgers

Motorways are in fact much the safest roads on which to travel. But I recognise the extent of public concern about the large-scale accidents that from time to time occur, particularly in fog and other kinds of bad weather. The answer to the problem ultimately lies in the behaviour of drivers. Meanwhile we shall continue to install lighting, and other safety equipment to assist them.
