HC Deb 03 February 1977 vol 925 c305W
Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he proposes to take in view of the fact that the number of social security frauds in Dorset trebled during 1976.

Mr. Orme

An increase in the amount of social security frauds discovered does not necessarily mean that the amount of underlying fraud has increased. While we prosecute fraudulent claimants wherever practicable—the numbers of prosecutions has increased markedly during the last few years—our main aim is to learn, from the frauds which are committed, how best to prevent similar frauds in the future.
