HL Deb 02 February 1977 vol 379 c951WA
Lord KENNET

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What undertakings the offshore operating companies have given and what financial provisions they have made for the eventual removal of gear and installations from the continental shelf when the oil and gas is exhausted.

Lord ORAM

As a condition of the consent given to the erection of an offshore installation, offshore operating companies are required to notify the Government in the event of the structure being abandoned, or disused, and to clear the site within such period as may be directed so that no danger or obstruction to navigation is caused or is likely to result. It is for the operating companies to decide what financial provision should be made in order to comply with these obligations.
