HC Deb 02 February 1977 vol 925 c226W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how much was spent by the Government on advertising in Welsh language papers and magazines in 1976;

(2) how much was spent by the Government on printing and advertising in the Welsh language in 1976.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

I have been asked to reply.

During 1975–76 advertising in Welsh and English language newspapers and magazines published in Wales amounted to £19,850 and £84,700 respectively. Figures for printing in the Welsh language are not centarlly available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. The total amount spent by the Government on advertising in 1975–76 was £17,528,900. Of this, some £20,200 was spent on advertising in the Welsh language; the remainder in the English language.
