asked the Lord President of the Council if he will update the tables of salaries and allowances of Members of Parliament in EEC and other countries last published in the Official Report, 8th December 1976, c. 192–201.

The current basic annual salaries of parliamentarians in the EEC countries are as follows:

  • United Kingdom—£6,270.
  • Belgium—1,310,277 BF (£20,750).
  • Denmark—128,240 Kr (£11,550).
  • Federal Republic of Germany—90,000 DM (£22,500).
  • France—198,000 FF (U2,400).
  • Ireland—£6,069.
  • Italy—15,428,956 Lire (£9,600).
  • Luxembourg—282,000 Lux F (£4,450).
  • Netherlands—51,255–80,518(£11,850-£18,600).

I regret that similar up-to-date information on allowances is not readily available.
