§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his policy towards the position of low-paid workers such as those covered by the Hairdressing Wages Council who have received no increase since the award of £4 under stage I, in the light of the Low Pay Unit's report to him on the matter.
§ Mr. John GrantWages councils are independent statutory bodies which make their own wages orders. The council made a new wages order on 12th December increasing minimum rates as from 21st November. I have no power to intervene.
