HC Deb 16 December 1977 vol 941 c521W
Mr. Ron Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied with the arrangements made to deal with accidents involving dangerous substances being transported by road in the Avonmouth-Bristol areas during the firemen's strike.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave on 5th December to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Coventry, South-West (Mrs. Wise). With the assistance which the Government have provided, fire authorities are providing the best possible cover in the circumstances, but I am under no illusion that this assistance can match that provided by the regular fire service.—[Vol. 940, c. 485.]
