asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to announce the building of a second Severn Bridge.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the present estimate of traffic volume using the Severn Bridge on average in the summer, and during the rest of the year, respectively.

Mr. Horam

The average monthly traffic using the Severn Bridge in the period June-August 1977 was 1,040,847 vehicles. The average for the rest of the period December 1976-November 1977 inclusive was 808,138 vehicles. Total traffic in the 12-month period was 10,395,780 vehicles.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the volume of traffic crossing into Wales and the volume of traffic crossing into England on average per week in the summer and the winter, respectively.

I regret that this information is not available at the present time, but it is hoped that studies now in hand by the Department in connection with the regional highway traffic model project
