HC Deb 15 December 1977 vol 941 c319W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his most recent estimate of the United Kingdom's need for installed nuclear power capacity in 1985, 1990 and 1995; and on what assumptions in relation to the supply of oil, gas, coal and alternative energy sources these calculations are based.

Mr. Eadie

The Department of Energy's most recent supply and demand assumptions to the end of the century for a reference case are set out in the working document on energy policy—Energy Commission Paper Number 1—of which are available in the Library of the House. The supply assumptions include provision for the following amounts of nuclear capacity, including existing plant, regarded as a prudent view of the maximum contribution that can be provided in the time-scale:

1985 10½ GW sent out
1990 13 GW sent out
1995 19½ GW sent out
Annex I of the working document sets out the assumptions made for the various energy sources.
