HC Deb 15 December 1977 vol 941 c406W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the estimated extra revenue in the current financial year of raising the upper limit for national insurance contributions from £105 per week to £130 per week.

Mr. Orme

On the assumptions used in the Government Actuary's Report on the 1978–79 contributions rates (Cmnd. 7036), and that the upper earnings limit for class 4 contributions had been correspondingly raised to £6,800 per year, the additional revenue in 1977–78 would be some £240 million, including for class 1 contributions the national insurance surcharge.
