Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the longstanding rule that Cabinet secrets should not be publicly disclosed for 30 years, he will arrange for all Cabinet Ministers to be included in this restriction so far as their writings and memoirs are concerned and that they should not write on any matters connected with their ministerial appointments until after 30 years of holding office.

My right hon. Friend the Member for Huyton (Sir H. Wilson) announced on 22nd January 1976 the Government's acceptance in full of the recommendations of 308the report of the Committee of Privy Counsellors on Ministerial Memoirs (Cmnd. 6386). Former Ministers are thus expected to conform to the principles and procedures set out in the report.
