HC Deb 15 December 1977 vol 941 c361W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs for what purpose his Department proposes to make a grant of £47,500 to the Great Britain—East Europe Centre.

Mr. Luard

The grant in aid is given to the centre to assist it to foster contacts between the United Kingdom and Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Romania; to promote in those countries better knowledge and understanding of the United Kingdom and its people; and to enable the centre to carry out a programme of activities in pursuance of the provisions of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe. The total grant for 1977–78 will now be up to £50,000 of which £45,000 is the basic grant in aid and £5,000 is to meet expenditure on CSCE activities.
