HC Deb 15 December 1977 vol 941 cc311-2W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if funds can be made available under the job creation scheme for cutting down diseased elm trees; how such application should he made: and, if funds cannot at present be made available, if he will set up a scheme by which local authorities would receive funds for this purpose.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that funds have been made available under the job creation programme for suitable projects involving the cutting down of diseased elm trees in areas where there are unemployed people with the necessary skills. Organisations, including local authorities, wishing to sponsor a project should contact the programme's nearest area office. Applications under the programme must be received by 31st December 1977 but projects of this type will be eligible under the Commission's special temporary employment programme, details of which will be announced shortly.
