§ 11. Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will revise the safety regulations for the loading of lorries in view of the number of accidents caused by loads being misplaced or falling on the public highway.
§ Mr. HoramThe regulations already require loads to be so secured that no danger or nuisance is likely to be caused by their falling off. That is backed by the Department's Code of Practice on the Safety of Loads on Vehicles, which can be taken into account in legal proceedings. However, my right hon. Friend is willing to consider any specific suggestions which hon. Gentlemen may make.

§ Mr. HoramThe extent to which heavy goods vehicles are involved in fatal accidents has been falling steadily over recent years. In order to reinforce this trend we hope to introduce shortly proposals for legislation which will strengthen the control of overloading and bad maintenance.
