Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will publish a table showing (a) the number of undergraduates who leave each university having failed to obtain

of grant from the University Grants Committee the number of full-time undergraduate and post graduate students in each university during the academic year 197778 as returned to the University Grants Committee at 31st October 1977.

Mr. Oakes

The information for full-time and sandwich students, which is provisional, is as follows:

a degree and (b) the percentage of the total undergraduate roll at each university which these figures represent.

Mr. Oakes

I regret that this information is not available. It is estimated that the total wastage of full-time and sandwich first degree students at British universities from all years of their courses is about 12–13 per cent of students entering.
