§ Miss Margaret JacksonIn October, 1,787,000 pupils in maintained special schools and pupils in other maintained schools in England who were entitled to it on grounds on age were receiving free school milk. In addition, nearly 32,000 primary schoolchildren over the age of 7 were receiving free milk on health grounds. These figures represent 93.4 per cent. and 1.3 per cent. of the respective age groups present on the day of the census. On that day 34 local education authorities were selling milk to pupils in 775 primary and 26 secondary schools.
