Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if any grant or loan has been allocated by any European agency to improve electricity supplies in the North and North-West of Scotland.

The European Investment Bank has made three loans to the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board:

  1. (i) June 1974—£10.4 million towards the cost of construction of Peterhead Power Station.
  2. (ii) January 1976—£10 million towards the cost of transmission lines between Peterhead and Kintore, Peterhead and Rothienorman, and Kintore and Keith in the Grampian Region.
  3. (iii) July 1977—£4.1 million towards the cost of a transmission line to Skye, overhead and submarine transmission lines to the Orkney Islands of Hoy, Flotta, Graemsay and South Walls, and the installation of a mobile gas turbine generator on Flotta.
