Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what trust funds exist for the benefit of the patients and staff of the Bangor and Newtownards Hospitals; what is the value of the trusts: what was the income in 1975–76; and how much of the income was expended on the purposes which the donor had in mind.

Mr. Carter

The undernoted trust funds—valued at 30th September 1977—are held for the benefit of the patients and staff in accordance with the specifically expressed wishes of donors or where a specific wish has not been expressed, for the benefit generally of the hospital at the discretion of the trustees.

Income, including donations, legacies, dividends and interest in respect of the year 1975–76 amounted to £3,560 for Bangor Hospital and £8,140 for Ards Hospital. Expenditure in accordance with the wishes of donors amounted to £10,366 for Bangor Hospital and £5,438 for Ards Hospital.
