HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 c146W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will give the present salary and conditions of Sir Ian Bancroft; what his salary will be when he succeeds Sir Douglas Allen as Head of the Home Civil Service; what was the salary of Sir Douglas Allen; and what his retirement pension will be.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

Sir Ian Bancroft's present salary as a Permanent Secretary is £18,884, his conditions of service being those laid down in the relevant sections of the Civil Service Pay and Conditions of Service Code, a copy of which is available in the Library. On appointment as Head of the Home Civil Service Sir Ian Bancroft's salary will be £20,384, which is Sir Douglas Allen's present salary. The pensions of all civil servants are calculated on the same basis under the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme. Each reckonable year of service gives rise to a pension of one-eightieth of pensionable salary and a lump sum of up to three times that amount. It is Civil Service practice to give details of individual pension entitlements only to the beneficiaries concerned.
