HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 cc127-8W
Sir John Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider setting up a committee to investigate whether or not firms, and particularly warehouses and the like, over a period of time should be made to equip their premises with sprinklers and fire extinguishers.

Dr. Summerskill

Existing statutory requirements for the provision of means for fighting fire in places of work are designed essentially to protect life rather than property. Research is, however, being undertaken to establish whether there is a sufficient case, on economic grounds, to require or induce the more effective protection of property.
