HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 cc168-9W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give details of those members of the CBI who have any public appointments financed in any way from Treasury funds; what jobs are held and by whom; what are their salaries and expenses; and how many hours were expended on each job at 1st December 1977.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

The following members of the CBI Council are chairment of economic development committees:

Mr. Peter Parker—Clothing

Sir Daniel Pettit—Distributive Trades

Sir John Read—Electronics

Mr. K. G. Corfield—Ferrous Foundries

Mr. A. F. Frodsham—Machine Tools

The position carries a fee of £1,000 a year—which they do not all take—and involves chairing about four regular meetings a year and other work connected with the industries concerned. A number of industrialists whose companies belong to the CBI serve on economic development committees or sector working parties and may claim expenses. They are doing important work in a voluntary capacity, for which, I am sure, the House is grateful.
