HC Deb 12 December 1977 vol 941 cc98-9W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the most recent estimate of the number of jobs in the small business sector of the Scottish economy.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

The precise information requested is not available for the reasons given in the reply of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment to the hon. Member on 5th August 1976.—[Vol. 916, c.953.]

The following table, however, shows the annual census of employment units with under 200 employees, covering all industries and services except agriculture and horticulture and private domestic service, with addresses in Scotland, in June 1975:

Size range Number of employees
1–10 employees 264,270
11–49 employees 465,433
50–199 employees 467,513
1,197,216
