Sir G. de Freitasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to reply to the letter, reference WD/1322/10, of 5th December from the Chief Executive of the Northamptonshire County Council in which he asks how the county can implement the new responsibilities under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 on site licensing, when the amount of rate support grant payable to the county is being reduced.
§ Mr. ShoreThis week. We have added £1 million to the rate support grant 25W settlement for each of the last two years to enable local authorities to meet this commitment. The relevant sections of the Control of Pollution Act were brought into force in June 1976 with the agreement of the local authority associations. I regret that Northamptonshire should not yet be fulfilling its obligations under them.
