Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how far the Hairdressing Undertakings Wages Council is responsible to him; and what representations he has had about the council's recent decision to make pay awards which vary between 15 and 22 per cent.

Mr. John Grant,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 8th December 1977], gave the following information

The council is an independent statutory body which makes its own wages orders. I understand from the Secretary of the Office of Wages Councils that 125 representations have been made.
