Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish a table showing the number of vacancies in manufacturing per 1,000 of the working population in each region of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Golding

The following table gives the numbers of unfilled vacancies in manufacturing industries and estimates of the numbers of employees, employed and unemployed, in all industries and services. Because of possible duplication, the vacancy figures for employment offices and careers offices cannot be added together to provide the ratios requested.

The vacancy figures relate only to vacancies notified to employment offices and careers offices and are not a measure of total vacancies.
