HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 c813W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what directives have been issued to the Milk Marketing Board concerning the marking of milk output in imperial or metric measures.

Mr. Bishop

None. The Milk Marketing Scheme 1933, as amended, empowers the Milk Marketing Board to determine the ways in which milk is to be marked. Ministers cannot therefore issue directives to the MMB concerning milk marking. The agricultural industry has undertaken a voluntary programme of metrication, the Milk Marketing Board's changeover to metric units taking effect from 1st October 1976.
