HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 c806W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what register he maintains of disqualification of local councillors following criminal conviction or finding of other malpractices.

Mr. Freeson

None.

Mr. Joseph Dean

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what global sums of money were paid to the individual county councils and the six largest metropolitan district councils in attendance and subsistence allowances for the councillors for these authorities in the year 1976.

Mr. Shore

The information requested is not available, but I would refer my hon. Friend to Volume II of "Remuneration of Councillors", the report of the Committee of Inquiry into the System of Remuneration of Members of Local Authorities, which was published on 1st December. Table B2 of Volume II gives an estimate of the cost of the various councillors' allowances—other than travel and subsistence allowances—in 1975–76, broken down by type of authority.
