HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 c816W
23. Mr. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the average annual rate of inflation since March 1974; and how this compares with the average annual rate of inflation between June 1970 and February 1974.

Mr. Healey

The average annual rate of inflation between March 1974 and October 1977 was 18.1 per cent. This stands in a better relation to the performance of the previous Administration than their's did to their predecessors.

31. Mr. Cronin

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his current estimate of the rate of inflation.

Mr. Healey

In the 12 months up to October, the retail price index rose by 14.1 per cent.

33. Mr. Marten

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what have been the five most important causes of inflation since March 1974; and if he will give the estimated percentage of inflation which each has caused.

Mr. Healey
