§ Mr. Harry EwingIn 1975, 218 sheriffs and justices were consulted about proposals to remit fines outstanding to borstal inmates. In response, 191 expressed no objection or agreed with the proposal, and remission was granted in 176 cases. Fines amounting to £5,669 were remitted. The corresponding figures for 1976 were 239, 208, 188 and £6,404.
