HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 cc845-6W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people were employed on maintenance of the M8 motorway on the pay weeks ending 27th May, 29th July, 30th September, and 28th October 1977, respectively.

Mr. McElhone

For the trunk road sections of the M8 motorway, for which show in the Official Report how the period covered by the 1976 Annual Report compares with those shown in Command Paper No. 2864.

Mr. Harry Ewing

The information, so far as it is available, is given in the table below. The estimates for 1971–76 relate to the present local authority areas, which are not strictly comparable with the areas referred to on page 107 of Cmnd. 2864.

I am responsible, the agent authorities estimate that the approximate numbers of people employed on maintenance were:

Pay week ending 27th May 1977 — 37
Pay week ending 29th July 1977 — 31
Pay week ending 30th Sept. 1977 — 31
Pay week ending 28th October 1977 — 45

Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list six motorway and dual carriageway capital projects in the past five years for which the Scottish Office has been able to assess the local employment value in directly created jobs on road construction.

Mr. McElhone

I have nothing further to add to the answer given to the hon. Member on Tuesday 29th November 1977.—[Vol. 940. c.190.]
