HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 c862W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what directives have been given to offices of his Department to instruct staff how to deal with families of striking firemen who apply for benefit.

Mr. Orme

No special directives were necessary, as local offices of my Department have standing instructions on how to apply the law on claims to supplementary benefit from people on strike.
